Our Hedgehog Classic software was built to support multi-lingual functionality; however, until the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) expressed their desire to implement it for their inspection workflow, we didn't have any customers using it. What started as a discussion to maximize Hedgehog's functionality quickly turned into a close collaboration.
On EOHU's side, a cadre of key personnel worked to translate into French both their inspection configuration data and inspection report template. Hedgerow was tasked with creating the French inspection report template from the provided French translation, creating a stored procedure for the French inspection report data, and doing a mass update of the inspection configuration data with the French terms.
In addition, Hedgerow needed to update the WebIntegrator procedures to include the translated French terms, so that EOHU's website would have government language compliance for their future plans to provide inspection reports directly to the public online.
After months of diligent translating and coding, both collaborators joined their pieces together to form a cohesive, maximized inspection workflow. After thorough testing by Hedgerow, it was released to EOHU in May, 2011.
At the recent National CIPHI Conference held in Halifax, NS, Hedgerow's booth had a visit from Caroline Kuate. Caroline, the Manager of Public Health at EOHU, was the Health Unit's coordinator on the French integration project, and was extremely happy to report that the French inspections were working wonderfully.
Obviously, Hedgerow's primary concern is to provide exceptional customer service and software that allows our clients to do their jobs as efficiently and effortlessly as possible. However, we also look towards the future and realize the success of Hedgerow and EOHU's collaboration opens doors for similar future endeavours. For those of you who have heard about our soon-to-be-released Hedgehog.Net, rest assured that multi-language functionality will continue to be part of our core product.
